UPDATER INTERNET STORE PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: March 26, 2026 | Effective Date: March 26, 2026
1. Introduction and Who We Are
At Updater, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data when you use the Updater Internet Store (the “Service”), your privacy rights, and how the law protects you. This Policy supplements Updater’s general Privacy Policy, available at https://updater.com/terms. In the event of conflict, this Privacy Policy controls.
The Updater Internet Store is a custom GPT application that runs within the ChatGPT platform. It uses automated systems to generate responses. While we strive for accuracy, responses may be incomplete or incorrect and should not be solely relied upon for making decisions.
The Service is available only to individuals located in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, you are not authorized to use the Service.
1.1 Contact Information
Updater Inc., 9450 SW Gemini Dr, PMB 43895, Beaverton, OR 97008-7105. For any questions about this privacy policy or your personal data, email us at [email protected].
1.2 Our Role
With respect to the Service, Updater acts as the “business” (as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act) for personal data we collect about you and your use of the Service. When we transmit your personal information to an internet service provider at your request to reserve an internet or TV plan, those providers are independent third parties responsible for their own data practices.
2. How Your Data Flows Through the Service
Because the Updater Internet Store operates within ChatGPT, your data is handled by multiple parties. Here is how it works:
- Conversational inputs: All messages you type are processed by OpenAI, L.L.C. as part of the ChatGPT platform. OpenAI may retain conversational data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. OpenAI’s handling of data is governed by OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.
- Address lookups: When you enter a service address, it is sent from ChatGPT to Updater’s servers via an API action to retrieve available TV, internet and mobile service plans. Address data is not retained beyond your session.
- Session identifier: When you interact with the Service’s interactive plan selection or reservation widgets, we assign your session an opaque, randomly generated unique identifier (a “session UUID”). This identifier is included in the widget interface so that widget interactions can be correlated with our backend service events for performance measurement and error tracking. The session UUID is not linked to your name, email address, OpenAI account, or any other personal attribute. When you interact with the Service through ChatGPT, this identifier is included in tool response data processed by OpenAI’s systems — see Section 3.2 for full details.
- Plan reservations: When you confirm an order reservation, your name, email, phone number, and plan selection are transmitted from ChatGPT to Updater’s servers and then shared with the service provider you selected.
Updater does not use your personal information submitted through the Service to train machine learning models.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Personal Information
When you use the Service, we may collect the following categories of personal information:
- Service address — street address and postal code, used to look up TV and internet plan availability in your area
- Name — collected only if you choose to reserve a plan
- Email address — collected only if you choose to reserve a plan
- Phone number — collected only if you choose to reserve a plan
- Plan selection details — the name, provider, and price of the plan you select, collected only if you choose to reserve a plan
- Conversational inputs — the information in you submit in your requests and responses during your session with the Service
3.2 Analytics and Service Performance Data
We collect non-personal information to measure and improve Service performance, including:
- Error rates, traffic volume, and device type — used to monitor uptime and diagnose technical issues.
- Usage patterns — which features are used, where users drop off, and how effectively the Service helps users find and reserve plans.
- Session UUID (unique identifier) — when you interact with the Service’s interactive widgets (plan selection and reservation interfaces), we assign your session an opaque, randomly generated unique identifier. This identifier:
- Is randomly generated and contains no personal information
- Is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, device, or OpenAI account credentials
- Has no authentication value and cannot be used to access any account
- Is used solely to correlate analytics events between our interactive widget interfaces and our backend systems for the purpose of measuring Service performance, funnel completion, and error rates
- When you interact with the Service through ChatGPT, this identifier is included in tool response data processed by OpenAI’s systems in accordance with OpenAI’s Privacy Policy (https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy)
- Is retained for up to one year, then deleted or anonymized consistent with Section 7
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, a session UUID of this nature is a “unique personal identifier” and is treated as a Category A Identifier (see Section 12).
4. How We Use Your Information
4.1 Provide and Improve the Service
We use your personal information to deliver the features you request, including:
- Looking up TV and internet plan availability at your service address
- Displaying relevant plan options, pricing, and provider information
- Submitting a reservation or referral on your behalf to your chosen service provider, if you request it
- Facilitating your contact with the service provider to complete your order
Your usage information helps us understand how users interact with the Service, identify areas for improvement, and develop new features.
4.2 Communication
We may contact you to complete or verify the details of your order (if you reserve a plan), send you important updates, service changes, security alerts, and legal notices. If you opt in, we may also send marketing communications; you can unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions in the email.
4.3 Analytics
We use analytics tools to analyze usage patterns and trends, measure the effectiveness of our efforts, and make data-driven decisions to improve the Service. Our analytics system uses session UUIDs (described in Section 3.2) to correlate interactions across the Service’s interactive widget interfaces and backend systems — for example, to measure how many sessions result in a plan reservation, and where users encounter errors. Analytics data is used solely for internal service improvement and is not shared with advertisers, used for behavioral profiling, or used for cross-context advertising.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
5.1 Internet and TV Service Providers
If you choose to reserve a plan, your name, email address, phone number, and plan selection will be shared with the provider you selected. These providers may include, but are not limited to, Xfinity/Comcast, Cox Communications, and AT&T. These providers receive your information solely to process your reservation and contact you to complete your order. They are responsible for their own handling of your information once received.
5.2 OpenAI
Your conversational inputs are processed by OpenAI, L.L.C. as part of the ChatGPT platform. OpenAI may retain data for up to 30 days for abuse and safety monitoring. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy for details.
5.3 Infrastructure Providers
We may share personal information with service providers (such as Google, AWS, Cloudflare, and Microsoft) who assist us in operating the Service. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes for which it was shared.
5.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your personal information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect our rights, property, or safety, or the rights, property, or safety of others.
5.5 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal information may be transferred to the acquiring entity.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The Updater Internet Store operates within the ChatGPT platform. Cookies and tracking technologies used within the ChatGPT interface are governed by OpenAI’s Privacy Policy. When the Service makes API calls to Updater’s servers, we may use server-side analytics to monitor performance and error rates, but we do not set cookies on your device through the Service. Cookie usage on Internetstore.com is governed by the main Updater Privacy Policy.
Session identifiers in interactive widgets: When the Service displays interactive widget interfaces (such as plan selection or reservation screens), we pass an opaque session UUID to those interfaces to enable correlation of widget interactions with our backend service events, as described in Sections 2 and 3.2. This identifier is not a cookie, is not stored on your device, and does not persist beyond your session except as part of our standard analytics data retention described in Section 7.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected:
- Address lookup data — retained for up to one year, then anonymized or deleted
- Conversational session data — retained for up to one year for service quality and compliance, then anonymized or deleted
- Reservation and lead data (name, email, phone, plan selected) — retained for up to 3 years for business records and regulatory compliance or as long as required by our contractual obligations with third-party providers applicable to your use of the Service.
- Analytics data — retained for up to one year, then anonymized or deleted
8. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration. We also do not “share” your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). We do not use your personal information for profiling or targeted advertising.
9. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information, including physical, technical, and administrative safeguards such as encryption, access controls, and employee training. However, no security system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
11. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights with respect to data collected through the Service:
- Opt out of lead submission — you may end the conversation at any time before confirming a reservation. No lead will be submitted unless you explicitly request it.
- Right to know — you may request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to correct — you may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Right to delete — to request deletion of your personal information, email [email protected] with the subject line “Updater Internet Store Deletion Request.” We will process your request within 30 days and may require identity verification.

- Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of the rights described in this section.

13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. Please review this policy periodically.
